A tense, atmospheric tale of fear and isolation - to be read in a single sitting, with the lights on.’ John Connolly

‘Liza Costello's sinister thriller The Estate ... will have you on the edge of your seat. ... In a wonderfully nuanced piece of writing, the reader must read between the lines.’ Ann Dunne, Irish Independent

‘Brilliant suspense-building … excellent world-building and characters. The Estate frames the recession of 13 years ago as a monstrous thing, and it’s impossible not to feel its resonance in the crises of today. … It manages to tackle difficult topics – addiction, poverty, abuse – with grace.’ Andrea Cleary, Sunday Business Post

‘Liza Costello is a talented new voice on the Irish psychological thriller scene. … [she] very much succeeds in ensuring that a dark and eerie undercurrent pervades this entire book right until the last page. There is no doubt that Costello is a spark waiting to ignite so I’ll be keen to see what she does next.’ Breda Brown, Sunday Independent

Praise for the Audible Original version of The Estate:

'The Estate has a very Girl on the Train (by Paula Hawkins) kind of vibe. I found myself screaming at Beth to put down the wine and pay attention to life!! Open your eyes Beth! I know I was screaming the same thing to Rachel for nearly the entire audiobook. There are two big differences between the two stories... besides the obvious missing train here. Beth is smart. Beth has people who genuinely care for her. Honestly, Beth has several redeeming qualities as a person. I also enjoyed this audiobook at least twice as much as I had Girl on the Train.' 'Gloomy, eerie, and complex! The Estate is a dark, gritty thriller that transports you to recession-era Ireland and into a housing estate mostly abandoned due to economic depression and only inhabited by those few desperate and willing to do almost anything for survival. The writing is edgy and intense. The characters are consumed, manipulative, and unreliable. And the plot is a mysterious tale of control, betrayal, obsession, malice, substance abuse, familial drama, loneliness, isolation, and violence. Overall, The Estate is a twisty, atmospheric, sinister Audible Original title that reminds us just how quickly life can spin out of control and highlights just how parasitic some relationships can truly be.' The only downside was that it had me so gripped, I often struggled to get out of the car upon reaching my destination! I found Beth to be an extremely interesting central character and enjoyed the way that the narrative switched between the past and the present to reveal what had gone on at The Estate and to subtly create a sense of foreboding regarding the state that Beth was currently in. I really didn’t know which, if any, of the characters that I could trust and found myself constantly questioning everything that I read. While I guessed a small part of the plot in terms of the cause of Beth’s troubles, the dark and twisty atmosphere kept me hooked and dying to find out the full story. Which in the end turned out to be satisfyingly explained and still had a few surprises in store. ... Overall, I’m giving The Estate 4 out of 5. It’s gripping, eerie and super intense. I thoroughly enjoyed it.' MistiMoo Books
